RECURSION

Artist Statement — Shorna Abedin

RECURSION explores the psychological cycle in which a single thought repeatedly returns to itself, becoming increasingly difficult to escape. The faceless figure represents a mind whose identity has been gradually overtaken by repetition, while the spiraling form within the head suggests a thought trapped in perpetual motion.

Around the figure, fragmented circles and restless lines create a visual network of repetition, fixation, and mental noise. The vivid reds, blues, yellows, and greens introduce conflicting emotional forces, while the deep black ground suggests an undefined psychological space where these thoughts continue to multiply.

The secondary red presence suggests that what begins as an internal thought can eventually acquire a presence of its own—something that follows, surrounds, and influences the individual.

Rather than depicting obsession literally, RECURSION visualizes the mechanism behind it: a thought returning to the same place again and again until the repetition itself becomes a world.
