COLLAPSE
Artist Statement — Shorna Abedin
Collapse explores the moment when the weight of unspoken emotions becomes too heavy to carry. The figure turns inward, covering the face as if trying to disappear from a reality that has become unbearable. Yet the gesture is not simply one of hiding—it suggests a mind retreating beneath its own silence.
The fractured, heavily textured surface reflects an internal world breaking apart: memories, fear, grief, and exhaustion layered until the boundaries between self and suffering begin to dissolve. The dark field surrounds the figure like an emotional void, while traces of red and gold emerge through the darkness, suggesting both pain and the remnants of a self still struggling to remain.
Collapse is not about the moment when a person falls. It is about what happens inside before the fall—when silence becomes heavier than words, and holding oneself together is no longer possible.
